More sketches and ideas for my project
This is a watercolour painting of an Alaskan mountain range inspired by the book Call of the Wild. I wanted to frame the mountain range with a couple of trees. This would be a good idea for a postcard or a Christmas card. When I develop this idea I think I will add snow into the picture to give it a more festive feel to it. I think what was most successful from this painting is the blues and purple tones creating depth in the mountains. I could make this better by adding more trees and scenery.
On this page of my sketchbook I wanted to draw the animals that appear in the book call of the Wild but I wanted to make less realistic to my previous sketches and I also wanted to experiment with scale. My favourite illustration would be of the bear mainly because of its long snout and small beady eyes. I also like the use of watercolour in all of these illustrations. I think the design for Buck looks quite successful too. I think the bushy ginger eyebrows help the character look old and could help me in the future to create expressions on his face.
This page has 5 illustrations of different animals that appear in the jungle book, similar to the previous sketches I wanted to make these drawings less realistic. However, I don’t think this page was half as successful, mainly because I found it hard to make the exotic animals recognisable while still knowing what animal it was for example my black panther drawing looks very strange. The most successful drawing I did was of the Sloth Bear- Baloo. This was the most successful mainly because of the already distinguishing featured it already had such as the big ears and very long and wide snout. I think to improve this drawings it would be nice to make Lino prints of them.
