Christmas Card Designs

Image
As an improvement for this Christmas card design I added a forth paw so that the perspective wasn't off putting. I also added Merry Christmas at the top in simple lettering. I decided to go with a simple font for all of these Christmas card designs so it didn't take away from the focus of the drawing. I'm not sure if I'm particularly very fond of this design so I  think I will develop this idea further.  To develop my idea for a Christmas card design I decided to make a scenery surrounding the dog. Although the original drawing of the dog in the snow is inspired by Buck's first time in the snow in "Call of the Wild" I think showing the Alaskan background gives something more to look at for the audience and my target market. For this drawing I also had a lot of fun designing different ways to draw trees and snow. I decided to change Buck's fur colour to match with the tones used in the background. Instead of giving him antlers, I changed his accessory t...

Marketing research and spreadsheets

For my personal branding development I thought it was fitting to change my profile picture on instagram to the photo I will be using on my Etsy page, however, with a different name.  I also decided to start promoting my Etsy page to get excited up for this weekend coming. I did this by showing myself printing a card.  I also have set a countdown on my instagram for the 22nd of November at 6:00 the date I will be launching my Christmas card designs on my Etsy page.  For my Etsy page, to work out how much I'm going to sell my products for I have made a spreadsheet of all the costs and adding them together to see what profit I will make.  The last image shows that I will be charging £2.75 for a normal Christmas card inc delivery which will give me £1.30 profit. For a pack of 5 I will be charging £5.75 which will give me £2.75 profit.

Planning products to sell

I have decided to do a Christmas Card inspired by the scene from when Buck sees snow for the first time. I added some antlers on to him to make him appeal to my audience however I think I might stick to some sceneries involving mountains and the aura borealis. My next steps will be to include a more interesting background. Although I'm not sure about the antlers I still think the dog is cute and would be a nice product to sell. I decided to design a format of a card showing the simple version of my brand logo on the back page with places to find me on social media in the bottom corner.  This scanned in image is of a painting I did for this module showing a brighter side to Alaska, where The Call of The Wild is based. This piece took all day to paint and is very time consuming so if I want to sell it I would only use a scanned in version. I think this is very effective and I will definitely be adding Buck in the foreground as I continue with this module I think it could give it a ve...

Personal branding

Image
This design is inspired by my Instagram name was and thought it would be most recognisable for my followers. I added a simple robin perched on a branch. The robin is added as a tribute to my last name and for my family as they see robins as a sign of hope.  This design is inspired by my name on Etsy, my Instagram name wasn’t available so I had to change it. I added in a robin flying to see the difference between it perched and in action.   I did an extra example of “Art by Amy Elizabeth” with a robin perched and it has shown me that for “Amy Elizabeth Illustration” the perched robin looks effective however for the “Art by Amy Elizabeth” the flying robin looks so much better.  Here’s one frame by branches, personally I think this design has too much going on, however, I used 3 robins to represent me and my 2 brothers. Taking one of the robins away definitely helps, however I think the best decisions are still one of the first ones I did.

More experiments

This painting is using acrylic paints as my media and I wanted to experiment with making nice background for prints I might sell on Etsy inspired by “The Call of the Wild”. I love the bright colours used in this painting, especially the contrast of the cool tones from the blue with the warm tones of the green, yellows and pink. I especially love the look of the mountains, they both look illustrative and three dimensional. To make this more inspired by “The Call of the Wild I could add in wolves or ‘Buck’ the St. Bernard.  Here are some quick sketches for the design of the animals if I wanted to a Lino print.  This is a rubber print I did at home using some acrylic paint as the medium and foam paper. I like the curvature in the sky made up of lines however I think to make it look more professional I could do it on Lino with trees in the background and using printing ink instead of acrylic paint.  Here is another acrylic painting of the setting of “The Call Of the Wild”. I ...
